This week, the ESC's treasurer/CFO, David Varda, was honored by the
Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) receiving two awards. First, he was named the 2023 Central Region Distinguished Service Award recipient. OASBO's Distinguished Service Awards Program is a series of five regional awards, recognizing one individual from each region. Recipients of these awards are recognized for significant contributions to the public good.
Kristine Blind, CFO/treasurer of London City Schools, and Becky Jenkins, CFO/treasurer of New-Albany Plain Local Schools, said that "the name David Varda is synonymous with excellence in school business. He has made tremendous contributions at each step in his career and is known all throughout the state. With David's vast experience and giving back to each community he has been a part of, there is no one more deserving of this award."
In addition to this honor, David was selected from amongst the five regional award recipients and was named the Virginia Ramsey Service Award winner. Virginia Ramsey is a retired Ohio school business official that dedicated many hours to improving OASBO’s Annual Conference & Expo each year. As a result, in 2004, the OASBO Board of Directors created the First Annual Virginia Ramsey award to recognize her for her significate contributions to the OASBO Annual Conference & Expo. The recipient of the Virginia Ramsey Award is encouraged to submit their application materials to
ASBO International for the Eagle Award.
The Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) provides support and services to Ohio public school district treasurer/CFOs, business managers, food service, transportation supervisors, and finance office support staff. They provide their members with legislative advocacy, collaboration, and innovative education. Today they serve more than 1,500 school business officials, and more than 170 service affiliate members.
