Focus on being an advocate for social change during 2021 and beyond with the Equity & Empathy Professional Learning Session! You will walk away from this 90- minute session empowered to do your part in eliminating disparate outcomes for students, families, and the communities where they live and work. Together we will briefly historicize the impact of racism on education by making connections between historic and current global events. We will unpack and examine our own privileges and how they may impact our ability to be empathetic. We will also reflect on current practices and share practical strategies and resources for effective, sustainable, equitable and critical pandemic pedagogy through a lens of empathy and social justice. Participants will receive the book "Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain" by Zora Hammond mailed to their home following the session in order to continue the work of being an advocate for social change in education.
