ESC Named High School Tech Internship Pilot

The ESC of Central Ohio Business Advisory Council was selected to serve as an Education Pilot Site for the High School Tech Internship Pilot Program – a collaborative initiative through the Ohio Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, the Ohio Development Services Agency, and the Ohio Department of Education.

This goal of this new program is to connect Ohio’s high school students with technology roles and technology businesses in Ohio at an earlier age.

The ESC will work with Central Ohio schools districts to place at least eight students (of 100 interns placed statewide) in summer internships at businesses throughout the area. Interns will be in technology roles that focus on software, data, cloud and IT infrastructure, and cybersecurity and will be expected to perform duties similar to what would be expected in an entry-level position.

In addition to earning invaluable real-world experience, students will be paid and may have the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized credential, which can help set them up for success after graduation.

“Our youth value experiences and opportunities to demonstrate their skills and passion. This tech internship pilot program allows students to that while also encouraging businesses to meet the future IT workforce, and to develop a viable talent pipeline starting in high school,” said John Hambrick, ESC of Central Ohio Work-Based Learning Coordinator. “The ESC of Central Ohio is thrilled to be an Education Pilot Site and grateful for the resources our state has pulled together to provide this pilot program.”

If you’re an employer that wants to offer a tech internship, email [email protected] or call him at 614.753.4645.
