Project Plus

Our CBT Programs provide students with the opportunity to continue their education in an age-appropriate setting, utilizing the community as a learning environment to help increase employment outcomes. Project Plus classrooms allow students to continue their education and participate in various internships around the Ohio State University campus and community. Your home district will provide transportation to and from Project Plus.

It is a one-year class, serving as the final transition from school to work, adult day programs, independent living and other future goals. Project Plus helps determine interests, skills, and future opportunities.

Project Plus conducts two transition meetings and an exit IEP meeting during the year.
 
Purpose
  • Ensure connection with adult agencies is understood by students and families as they transition away from school services.
  • Incorporate a curriculum that emphasizes self-determination, self-advocacy, communication, and employability skills.
  • Increase social and independence skills.
  • Become productive employees and citizens.
  • Gain employment after graduation. 

Schedule
Students will follow the ESC of Central Ohio’s Campus-Based Transition schedule and calendar, which will differ from your home district’s calendar. Project Plus is in session Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. 

Work Days 
Students will work four days/week, approx. 20 hours/week at the locations listed below – all located on OSU’s campus.

  • Sloopy's Diner
    • Wash dishes, bus tables and prep food
  • Student Union Market
    • County delivery inventory, prep and portion various food items and stock grab-and-go cooler
  • University Catering
    • Prep food, assemble box lunches, and wash dishes
  • Recreation and Physical Activities Center
    • Housekeeping, laundry, stocking, light cleaning, and towel exchange
  • Central Production Kitchen
    • Mass production and assembly of food products distributed throughout The Ohio State University dining services. 
  • Jesse Owens South and Adventure Recreational Center
    • Checking students in, checking out equipment, cleaning machines, head counts, retrieve and return equipment, light cleaning
  • Catering
    • Dish room, cleaning kitchen equipment, food prep, box lunch prep, baking
  • Childcare Center
    • Prep lunch, set up classroom, read to students, assist with activities and learning, supervise outside
  • Campus and Community Engagement
    • Clean campus and community outside facilities and parks

Campus Days 
Campus days consist of general classroom work (IEP goals), career exploration, building confidence, independence, self-advocacy and social & emotional skills.

Community Days 
Students volunteer in the community in areas of interest, tour day programs, job shadow in career area of interests, and explore specific social opportunities in their community.
